Through dedicated and compassionate mentorship, we guide children and teenagers towards developing the skills and talents needed to succeed in school, the working environment and tertiary education. We believe that developing basic cognitive abilities within childhood will better equip youngsters for the future, launching them toward success.
Holiday Club was originally introduced in 2018. It has grown in popularity and is hugely supported by the community. We provide a safe environment during the school holidays, along with creative stimulation, including arts and crafts, horse riding, sports, dancing, games, quizzes, pottery, jewellery making, and many more activities. The community provides soup, sandwiches, and snacks when able.
Also introduced in 2018, this has been a success, especially for the less academic youngsters. Every child has a gift and we have some excellent actors, dancers and vocalists. A pantomime has been produced each year, where they all get to perform. We have the support of a music teacher with 20 years of experience, as well as a sound engineer. Sets are painted, and some of the props are made by the children at Holiday Club in preparation for the coming show. During 2023 we introduced puppets and a puppet theatre to engage them from a young age, and to encourage reading through telling stories with interactive puppets.
This was founded in April 2024 and started under a tree on a blanket in the dirt. We then rented a warehouse, where we set up a Lego room. This has been a huge hit and attracts many youngsters who otherwise would be playing on the street. The wonderful outcome of this initiative is that they are gaining the essential problem-solving and math skills hugely lacking today in schools, and it is preparing them for the future.
During the past six years, we have been involved in many projects that positively impact the community. These include recycling plastic, learning about nature on guided hikes, mentoring matriculants by providing laptops and the internet, job shadowing in partnership with local businesses, baking classes, and makeup workshops for teens. Our other initiatives, include: ‘In conjunction with our specialists Shelagh Foster and Vici Greeff, we offer work skills training for SMEs within the Overberg region, enabling local businesses to upskill their customer-facing staff, and allowing sponsorship opportunities for local businesses to support schools in sharing these essential skills with students.
