Heurada showed a natural talent for dance and theatre at age 14. She took the lead role in our pantomimes for the past five years
Heurada is currently at the Waterfront Theatre School majoring in dance. This four-year course includes dance in all genres, as well as musical theatre. She also mentors the younger children and choreographs for us, along with teaching dance during the holidays.
The community involvement is not monetary as we live in a village that has mostly retired folk.
We are, however, given much support in the form of donated art and crafts supplies, fabric and sewing items.
Old clothes are donated, which we sell for funds, and unwanted furniture is passed on to our facility.
During school holidays, the community is very generous with sandwiches, soup, cooldrink and biscuits for the holiday clubs.
We are grateful for the generous support regarding skills, as many of the retired folks are willing to assist from time to time. These include a former cartoonist, artists, speech therapists, a potter, chefs, a yoga instructor, horseback archery instructor, hip-hop dancers, conservationists and many more.
Fundraising is difficult in such a small village, as other organisations are also trying to raise funds. We do however present occasional, highly successful one-act plays and whisky tastings to raise money.
